Okay, so we drove nearly 800 miles from the mountains of NC to the OBX of NC and back. We had a 3 piece wheeled luggage set plus two other large bags in this thing….as well as 2 body boards. We loaded this thing full but not too full. Honestly we could have put some soft items in it to fill it up (like deflated inflatables or pillows) but I didn’t want to push it. Super easy to install it on the hard top car (no racks and no rails). (see details of the durability at the end)

*Tips: Wash the car to prevent scratching it and make sure the bags is clear of debris on the bottom. Unzip the back before throwing on the car with the solid side facing your front windshield. Then load the product in the bag and zip it up. Once zipped, then you can loop the ties through the buckles and then to the car stripping (with doors open). Once in place, CLOSE the door BEFORE tightening the straps. Once the door is closed on the properly placed strap, then tighten it down. Now you can open your door and the strap will not come off the stripping. If you tighten it with the door open you could damage the stripping or your face when the hook lets loose and pops your mouth!
**Helpful hints:
1) This will increase your fuel consumption a ton. Normally I get 38-42 mpg in my Chevy Cruze going 70 mph, however I noticed that I was getting about 20mpg with this on my car.
2) The wind does wisp in your ear as you are driving….especially the front seats. So once we were in the vehicle, we used gorilla tape along the interior of the stripping and it was not bad at all. Of course, when you make a pit stop, you will have to reapplying the tape. Gorilla not duck…duck does not have the same thickness of Gorilla. Trust me…we put duck up and then stopped at Dollar General for Gorilla!

We had 4 adults taking a 7 hour drive for a week’s vacation at the beach in which we had to pack for both summer, fall and winter (because NC is bipolar) and this was a life saver! We packed our beach gear (cooler, picnic basket, body boards, inflatables and pump, along with so many towels) while on the banks so that we had everything at hand…while packing chairs and other items in the trunk. We experienced a Northeaster and Gulf Stream depression which collided off the coast for 3 days and turned into a tropical storm which sent 25 foot waves over the dunes onto the only highway (Hwy12) which we were driving on. This bag was literally drenched by the salty ocean water and pounds of sand, relentless beating for days. We drove through door high standing water that was hydroplaned onto my whole car during the worst of the storm. Not one item inside the bag was wet! Not one. The towels were as dry as they were from the dryer! I was shocked. This thing was literally battle tested!!! I literally left the bag on top of my car when the rain was sideways and swirling and it was not even phased…not even a little. I was amazed by the quality of the bag!

***I was not paid for nor asked to give my review.

I was initially impressed by the thickness of the material and we loaded up for our trip from Florida to Tennessee. Everything worked great and we went through several spots of heavy rain. It did not leak and seemed to hold up well. After our vacation we loaded up for our trip home. All was good. However, upon arriving at home and taking out our luggage the material did not hold up well at all (see the picture). The carrier was fully secured, did not move during the trip and was not rubbing on anything. It was about 75% filled so it was not over stuffed. It also was not so empty that it flapped in the wind. Not really sure why it ripped and wore so bad, but it did not hold up well at all. And of course it has a short window for returns, so I’m stuck with it.

Customer Questions & Answers

Will it fit mercedes glc 300?
Answer:

Hi Wayne,

The Range 3 and Range 2 is generally too large for a compact SUV like the GLC300 and we recommend the Range Jr. However if you feel like you need to try the larger size, you can always directly measure your roof and ensure the bag will fit.

Range 3 – 48″L x 36″W
??

Will this work ok with my 2013 Camry which has a sunroof?
Answer: Hello. Yes, the Range Jr is a great fit for your Camry. We also recommend using our Non-Skid Roof Pad for some added protection to your sunroof.

Can I use this next to skis on the rack?
Answer:

Hey Brigitte, I’m not sure about your specific application, but our Sport Jr. Car Top Carrier is 36″L x 30″W. You would need to make sure that it would still fit fully on your roof and that all 4 straps can be tightened down to either the roof rack or car doors via the car clips included. We also recommend packing the ??

Will this work on weather seals that can be pulled down
Answer: Yes. That??s how we hooked it on. There was a slight hiss but barely noticeable. Worked great – 8 hours @ 80 mph each way

Will this fit a 2008 kia rondo with roof rack?
Answer: Hi there,

Yes the Range Jr. should fit the Kia Rondo with a roof rack. You can also directly measure your roof rack area and confirm the Range Jr (36″L x 30″W) will work.

Does this reduce gas mileage with the Cargo bag on the rooftop? how is this compare to those brands with aerodynamic design?
Answer: Yes, it will. I used my original on a Chevy Impala. Paid @ $300 in gas one way with the topper, and $115 the other direction WITHOUT the topper. Hope this helps.

Can you use a luggage lock on it so you don??t have to babysit it?
Answer: Hello. We offer a Security Cable Lock as an accessory. You can lock the two zipper heads together so the Carrier cannot be opened.
